Energizing and connecting congregations to proclaim the gospel and make disciples of Jesus Christ

Cammie's Story

Finding Acceptance in God's Love

Cammie was a tall, awkward 10-year-old girl who loved art, sports and church. She struggled with shyness and a learning disability, and often felt out of place and unsuccessful at school. Cammie attended Young Disciples camp at Barbee, and came home a transformed individual. This is what she now says about the experience:

It was so comforting to be in a place that accepted me completely. My counselors and new friends at camp helped me see myself as God sees me: as a precious creation. It was the first time I ever felt that way. I learned to accept Gods love for me. By the middle of the week I began to look forward to going home and entering Pastors Class the following year, so I could find a way to express to the world the love God has for me in Jesus.

Cammie is still tall, but she is no longer awkward. She is a beautiful and accomplished teenager who excels in many areas. She is a leader in her congregations youth group and never misses being present. School is still a struggle for her sometimes, but she holds in her heart the unforgettable moment at camp when she knew God loved and accepted her.
