Terri Hord Owens

Rev. Terri Hord Owens will be the preacher during closing worship for the Regional Assembly.

Terri Hord OwensRev. Owens earned her bachelor's degree in Government with a minor in Afro-American Studies from Harvard University. She began her professional career in information technology, spending 23 years in the area of data management and data warehousing.

  Rev. Owens earned the Master of Divinity degree at the University of Chicago Divinity School, where she was a Disciples Divinity House Scholar, and recipient of the John Gray Rhind Award, given to the top M.Div. graduate at the Divinity School. 

She was ordained at Light of the World in July 2003, wearing the robe of her grandfather, the late Rev. Noel Hord.  In August of 2005, she was appointed Dean of Students at the University of Chicago Divinity School, where she is responsible for academic policy, students' academic progress, admissions and financial aid, recruiting, and career advising.  She serves on  number of committees in the University. 

Currently, she serves as interim pastor at First Christian Church in Downers Grove, IL.   She is also a member of the Board of Trustees at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. 

She is married to Minister Walter Owens, Jr.,(minister of music and arts at Salem) and the proud mother of W. Mitchell Owens, III, a student at Berklee College of Music, who is also the composer-in-residence for the Chicago Children's Choir.
